While proprietor Jay Corley acquired this large vineyard in excess of 200 acres in 1971, it was not until 1980 that Corley, a Jeffersonian scholar, turned grape grower, turned winery owner, launched his first wines. The debut releases were sometimes good, sometimes spotty, but in 1983, both his chardonnays and cabernets were successful, and this has been followed by an outstanding Corely Reserve cabernet sauvignon in 1984, and two brilliant cabernets in 1986 as well.
